The Movement Show

Utilizing the weapons of dance, theater, martial arts and
shadow, take a ride with us as we take you to the past and
the present. See our ties with our Asian and African
indigenous roots, our Spanish and American liberators, our
leaders, our families of strong women and nurturing men,
our wars, our migration for survival, our brotherhood with
each other and other people of color, our passions, and our
joys.

Together we role towards the future of the Filipino Americans
as we rally for love, justice, making sure that our presence
is documented as a culture that helped build great nations
with our fellow wo/man. The show will not only have a
variety of dance styles and movement, but will also be
accompanied by live musicians and other multi-media. Get
ready for a journey of our resilient history and our resonant
presence.

Through a series of workshops The Movement was
developed by four Filipino American artists whose
performance backgrounds varied, but were eager to share a
different perspective of the Filipino American story through
dance and movement. Being that Filipinos share a beautiful
and yet tumultuous history, The Movement touches upon
issues of colonization, violence, hatred, love, family, and
resilience. The Movement is a collaborative project, in which
cast members contributed ideas, inspiration, and
choreography.
